President Trump Cancels Plan to Dispatch Federal Troops to Bay Region

The President has scrapped arrangements for a dispatch of government forces to the San Francisco Bay Area that had provoked widespread condemnation from local authorities and brought protesters gathering in the public areas.

Regional Anxiety Over Possible Federal Presence

The region had been anxious after reports circulated that the government was poised to send over a hundred CBP and other federal agents to the government installation in Alameda, as part of a large-scale immigration enforcement plan.

Presidential Choice Following Discussions

However, the president announced he would not proceed with a “surge” of federal forces in the locale after conversing with the local official, Daniel Lurie, and business leaders including Salesforce CEO and Jensen Huang.

“During our discussion, the chief executive told me directly that he was terminating any plans for a government dispatch in this municipality,” the mayor said in a release.
