Djokovic Issues Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"

The tennis star has warned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will persist over his career like a "cloud" – and raised doubts about the scheduling of the sanction last year.

The Ban Explained

Sinner completed a three-month suspension in early 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency approved his account that a banned anabolic steroid, the steroid clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.

"That cloud will follow him just as the cloud of Covid will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It is a situation where, it was so major, and when that happens, over time it will fade, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There will inevitably exist a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."

The Champion's Viewpoint

The Serbian player stated that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "had no intentional involvement", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to serve his time without missing a grand slam.

"The absence of openness, the irregularity, the convenient timing of the suspension occurring between major events, so he doesn't miss out the others – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

Wider Player Reactions

"I really don't like how the situation was managed and you could hear numerous fellow athletes, across both tours, who had some similar situations voicing their concerns publicly and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
