British authorities has placed 11 further nations to its official alert register regarding the risks of toxic alcohol contamination from tainted alcoholic drinks.

The expanded warning now includes Bangladesh, India, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Rwanda following what officials describe as "a worldwide rise in the number of reported cases" of methanol contamination.

Only last month, authorities had earlier included Ecuador, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, and Uganda to the existing register, after multiple notable incidents including the tragic loss of half a dozen tourists in Laos in 2024.

Travellers are being warned that as little as minimal doses of toxic alcohol can lead to permanent eye damage or death within 12–48 hrs.

Industrial alcohol is a toxic industrial alcohol typically employed in coolant, car cleaning liquid, and paint solvent. It is not intended for drinking.
